Our Family
Trevor: filmmaker, amateur photographer, and full-time teacher.
Melissa: home cook, baker, and medical student.
Thompson: preschooler, lover of life, and our toughest food critic.
Our Story
There are many, many food blogs out there, and the world doesn’t really need another one. At the beginning of this year 2015 though, our little family of three began to realize we were getting bogged down by each of our own busy lives. Then, and now, it feels like we barely have time for the basics. Trevor is a full-time high school teacher. Melissa is a full-time medical student. Thompson is a full-time adorably crazy four year-old (this one keeps all of us occupied).
As we talked about ways to spend more time as a family, we quickly realized that we should focus our efforts on the few precious hours around dinnertime when we were all home. We have always mostly cooked homemade meals, but dinner usually happened with one of us doing the actual cooking, one of us trying to clean or make progress on our to-do list, and one of us trying to make sure those things didn’t happen (I’ll let you guess who did what). So, we decided to start this blog to encourage us to make not just our dinners, but also the preparation of them, memorable time together. It seemed like a simple way to combine our interests–Melissa makes the meals, Trevor photographs them, and Thompson assists, gets his hands messy, and taste tests along the way.
As someone who loves to cook and bake, I have also amassed a large collection of recipes that I have a hard time keeping track of. This will also be a place to finally create an organized collection of our family favorites. As our family grows, we hope to pass on to our kids a solid knowledge of food, lots of recipes, and maybe a few memories—with the hopes that they too will be able to create their own family tables.
Our Recipes
The recipes on this blog are ones that we enjoy cooking and eating. Some of the recipes will be simple and fast, while others will be more time consuming and complex. We enjoy cooking things that are healthy(ish) and fresh, but we also can’t pass on some of our favorite indulgent meals.
While I have loved reading the talented words of some of my favorite food bloggers in the past, I have had less and less time for that. Because of our own preference on what we like to look at on a food blog, our posts will mainly consist of pictures, recipes, and a short note about what we made.
We don’t pretend to have the time and endless-creativity to come up with our own recipes for every single meal we make. Most of our recipes are adjusted from other sources, which we will always include in our posts (unless they are original).
Please enjoy our family favorites!
